Reefer containers

Temperature-sensitive cargo needs precise instructions.

Enquire about reefer container transport with Dynamic Solvents in Cape Town, South Africa. Share the cargo conditions, equipment details, readiness and handover requirements so the proposed movement and operating responsibilities can be reviewed.

Conditions travel with the cargo brief.

Reefer containers are designed for cargo under temperature control. The required conditions depend on the commodity and the equipment; a container size alone does not describe them. The CTU Code distinguishes temperature-controlled cargo requirements, and Maersk's reefer guide explains the role of airflow and cargo conditions.

Provide the written instructions supplied by the cargo owner or responsible specialist. State the controller set point in degrees Celsius and identify any cargo-temperature, humidity, ventilation or atmosphere requirements that apply. Do not substitute a general product description for those instructions.

Prepare these details.

Cargo and conditions.

Commodity, packaging, quantity, required set point, loading condition and any permitted temperature limits or other operating instructions supplied for the cargo.

Container and equipment.

Size, type, container number if assigned, reefer specifications and any available inspection or equipment-readiness information. State whether additional power equipment has been requested.

Power and monitoring.

Identify who supplies power during road transit and each handover, what monitoring or records are required, and the contact responsible for responding to an alarm or deviation. These arrangements are reviewed for the proposed movement.

Handling and timing.

Loading and unloading arrangements, door-opening or handling constraints, exact locations, cargo-ready date and collection and delivery windows.

Plan the interfaces as well as the road leg.

Include the loading point, any terminal or depot handover and the receiving site in the brief. Ask who verifies the operating instructions, who receives the unit and who takes responsibility at each handover.

The CTU Code calls for agreed temperatures to be communicated and monitored where applicable. The required record, monitoring method and response arrangements should be agreed for the movement before acceptance.
